Not everyone is lucky to have the luxury of living in NYC, well that’s what people from somewhere else say. Some New Yorkers may claim it as the best city in the world, and for some, not at all. The variety of cultures, races, colors for that matter, thrive extensively in New York, the city for that matter. To some, NYC is Manhattan, only Manhattan, but hold on, how about Queens, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Staten Island. It may be because most, if not all skyscrapers are in Manhattan, a sign of being urban itself, and that too speaks about it being more developed than the rest of the other boroughs. I may be wrong, I can only judge by what I see and how far I’ve been (smile).
Different intricacies and diversities thrive in each of the different boroughs of New York. I am only speaking on behalf of the boroughs, the boroughs collectively. “Where can I get the best pizza?” asks one, “Is steak here better than there?”, “Is Upper East Side better than Upper West Side?”, “How do I get from Wakefield to Flatbush?”
“The train chase”, let me define it. It is running to the subway station making sure you don’t miss the train as it pulls into the station. You miss it by a mere second and you’re doomed to…. wait! Lucky you, if the next train is just a station away, a minute away, or literally within your reach. I remember a friend telling me his head once got caught in between the train doors as they closed. What happened to his hands, arms, feet, grocery bag, anything he was holding, why his head?! Blame it on rush hour. Yes, he’s still alive to this day.
And the subway/ platform crimes? The delay? The Asian hate? The protests! God Bless America!
“Square feet”. I personally love watching apartment tours on YouTube and when they say the magic words, I can partly conclude small kitchen, small living room, no dining area, maybe a tiny balcony called “fire exit”. If you’re able to shell out a couple more hundreds or thousands of dollars, then luck is on your side. Furniture size becomes a crucial, if not an integral part of the whole “lifestyle”. Well, this might only apply to the “city situation” that is Manhattan. Pre-war, walk-up apartment buildings? They are everywhere!
Billboards and blinding city lights, street parking, meter, and ticket? Yep, you need to spare $15 plus tax for 30 minutes of parking in a garage if you are too lazy to drive around for street parking or you can have the luxury of storing your car in your building’s garage, that is if you have extra $400 every month. Again, it’s a “city situation”
The tourists and the “slow walkers”… those who stand by the train door and don’t move when the door opens. There are also the native New Yorkers who walk fast, really fast, and don’t care if there hit you. I’m guilty AF.
Who’s with me on this? The big D!
Dating, yes, DATING. The excruciating path to finding the “one”, the right and left swipes, the intricate scenarios faced on the first date, the winding road to success in finding the right words to say so as not to scare them away, ahhhh the ghosting! We just want a partner to pamper us with hugs and kisses day and night, what is so hard with that? To some, it’s just quantity. Raise your hand if you’re for quality. Who wants to commit anyway? Haaaayyy society, and the defensive ones.
Expensive neighborhoods, family-oriented ones, for the young and bold, for the partygoers. The different pronouns out there. Celebrities and paparazzi. Bagels and biscuits. Tinder vs Bumble vs Hinge, and the rest of them. The fashion, which I love so much! Well, we have four seasons. No need to elaborate. Did I even mention that I see a lot of baby and animal strollers in the Upper East Side than anywhere else in the city?
Too many topics to discuss, too many beautiful things to see. The Big Apple, and I am a New Yorker. “If you can make it here, you can make it anywhere.”
Lovely day to all
